Introduction

Council Directive 89/106/EEC of 21 December 1989 on the approximation of laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States relating to construction products as amended by Council Directive 93/68/EC

Definition of Construction Products

Any product for incorporation in a permanent manner in construction works, including both buildings and civil engineering works

Examples

Cement, lime (incl. admixtures), concrete, precast products, tiles, construction adhesives, pipes with fittings and related components, fixed firefig h ting systems, bitumen, paving products, chimneys, windows, doors, radiators, thermal insulation products, geotextiles, glass, waterproofing sheets, roofing products, wood-based panels, timber structures, masonry units, WC pans, kitchen sinks, shower trays etc. …

Essential Requirements

Products must be suitable for construction works which (as a whole and in their separate parts) are fit for their intended use , account being taken of economy, and in this connection satisfy the essential requirements where the works are subject to regulations containing such requirements. For foreseeable actions. The essential requirement is follow;

	1. Mechanical resistance and stability
	2. Safety in case of fire
	3. Hygiene, health and the environment
	4. Safety in use
	5. Protection against noise
	6. Energy economy and heat retention
	Every of them is specified in details in the Annex I .

Differences in geographical or climatic conditions , in ways of life , different levels of protection may prevail at national, regional or local level an establishment of classes in the technical specifications.

Different classes ( different performance levels ) - M S may determine the levels in their territory only within the classifications adopted at Community level and only subject to the use of all or some classes or one class.

SCOPE OF AUTHORISATION

The Institute for testing and certification is authorised as Authorised Person No. 1023 to perform activities upon conformity assessment of construction products designated by the CE conformity mark:

	Structual bearing
	Geotestiles
	Waste water engineering products inside buildings
	Common cements
	Building limes
	Factory-made prescribed masonry mortars to be used in walls, columns and partitions
	Thermal insulating rpoducts
	Thermal insulating products for uses subject to regulations on reaction to fire
	Admixtures for concrete, mortar and grout
	Construction adhesives for tiles for internal and external use in building and other civil engineering works. Construction adhesives for tiles for use subject to reaction to fire regulations
	Piping kits, pipes, tanks, leakage alarm systems, overfill prevention devices, fittings, adhesives, joints, joint sealings, gaskets, ducts and conduits for protection, pipe/duct supports, valves and taps, safety ancillaries
	Floorings
	Prefabricated drainage channel
	Masonry units of category I to be used in walls, columns and partitions
	Tiles as internal or external finishes in walls or ceilings subject to regulations on dangerous substances
	Aggregates and fillers for uses with high safety requirements:
	- for concrete, mortar and grout
	Aggregates and fillers for uses with high safety requirements:
	- for bituminous mixtures and surface treatments
	- unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures
	Aggregates for uses with high safety requirements:
	- Armourstones (for hydraulic structures and other civil engineering works)
