Machinery Directive
CE marking is a mandatory symbol for those wanting
to export their products to almost all of the European
Nations, including the EU.
There are several
machinery related regulations in the industrial environment.
For example, Acoustic noise emission, Electromagnetic
emission, Emission of toxic materials or SEMI, etc.
So, sure that your product has the proper design and
construction complied with those regulations.
CE Marking/Europe
Requirements for export to European
Union
Almost all the Machinery and specific Safety
Components to be exported to the European Union must bear
the CE Marking. The CE Marking implies that the product
complies with the requirements regulated by the European
Directives and that it has the proper documentation.
Directives
related to Machinery
In most cases, for the machinery having the
Electric compartments and/or the Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems,
the following four directives would be related to the CE
Marking process: Machinery Directive, Low-Voltage Directive,
EMC Directive, and Simple Pressure Vessel Directive. The
main directive is the Machinery Directive (98/37/EC) -amended
from the previous directive (89/392/EEC).
Machinery
Directive Scope
The Machinery Directive 98/37/EC can be applied
to Machinery and specific Safety Components (e.g. sensor
mats, electromagnetic detectors, etc) defined in Annex IV
B. There are several machines so called "Annex IV-machinery"
considered particularly dangerous against the "ordinary
machines". It is important to find out whether ine
is within the scope of Annex IV. For example, Circular saws,
Band saws, Machines for Woodworking, Presses, Plastic molding
machines must be applied with the EC Type Examination and
be provided with an EC Type Examination Certificate.
Harmonized standards
There are numerous harmonized standards identified
as EN or EN ISO, etc. under the Machinery Directive. The
standards can be classified into three categories such as
Type A, B, and C.
Type A : Basic standards (e.g.
EN 292: Safety of machinery/Terminology)
Type B : Generic standards (e.g.
EN 982: Fluid systems and their components - Hydraulics)
Type C : Product specific standards
(e.g. EN 692: Mechanical presses)
How
to get the CE Marking
| |
|
Determine all "Applicable Directives"
(check the list with generic and product specific
directives) |
| |
|
Determine the "Essential Requirements"
(check all applicable directives) |
| |
|
Identify the "Harmonized Standards"
(check the Official Journal of the EU or ask us) |
| |
|
Determine the "Product Class"
(check the directives or ask us) |
| |
|
Select the "Conformity Assessment
Procedure" (check the directives for applicable
modules or ask us) |
| |
|
Select the "Notified Body"
(ask us) |
| |
|
Prepare the Documents to show compliance
with the directive(s) |
| |
|
Evaluate the product according to the
relevant standards |
